This 17 hour intensive, interactive training is designed specifically forschool-based therapists who service children diagnosed with childhoodapraxia of speech from preschool to high school. There are uniquechallenges that the school-based therapist faces when dealing with thiscomplex motor speech disorder. Focus will be primarily therapy-based,with various methodology’s highlighted and will include facilitation ofparent home carryover strategies and support. Sessions will includevideo examples of children of all ages being treated by school basedtherapists to enhance learning and encourage group discussion.Practical therapy ideas that can be used on Monday morning will beshared. Additional topics will also include IEP writing, teachercollaboration, and management of concomitant diagnoses. Uniquestrategies for caseload management will also be discussed. State-of-thearttechnology approaches will be featured with research supportdescribed when applicable. The knowledge gained from this intensivelearning experience will enable the school-based therapist to become aresource for others in the surrounding school communities.
