Do you have children on your caseload who have a speech disorder and are also struggling with pre-academic or academic skills?  Differential diagnosis of severe speech sound disorders, including Childhood Apraxia of Speech, is important for assuring that appropriate treatment techniques are used.  In addition, with the well-established connection between early speech-language impairment and later academic struggles, clinicians need to be aware of supporting acquisition of academic skills as part of intervention.  Adjustments will need to be made as a child progresses verbally and as they advance through the school curriculum. This workshop will begin with discussion of best practices for assessment and then review risk factors for academic problems and how intervention can be more closely tied to the curriculum for children from preschool through high school.
